1490
Enterprises, Inc. was established
in 1969 as a not-for-profit human services center serving low-income
residents of Buffalo. The primary purpose of the agency is
to provide needed social services to seniors, adults and youth.
A large area of the building is used for a Senior Citizen Center.
Over one hundred and fifty seniors are served hot lunches daily.

The 1490 Senior Citizens Center Program goals are to reduce
social isolation in the communities served, to increase the
ability to cope with life's changes, and to ensure contact
with other persons. These goals are achieved through informational
workshops and social programs on a day-to-day basis and recreational
activities such as sewing, crochet, choir rehearsal, exercise
classes, pool playing, computer classes, ceramics and various
other activities. We also provide transportation on a daily
basis to and from the center.

Located within the center for the convenience of our seniors
are several community service Program, Bethel Head Start, Buffalo
Chapter of the NAACP, Satellite office for the American
Cancer Society Outreach, Sister Network - American Cancer Affiliation,
Telephone Assurance Program, 4-H Cornell Cooperative Extension,
M&T Bank, NHS of South Buffalo, Inc. and The New Buffalo
Impact.
1490's most recent project, 1490 Estates, consists of 60 one-bedroom
apartments, which provide housing for the elderly and handicapped.
Other housing for the elderly through 1490 is 1490 Meadows
that consists of 24 newly renovated apartments. |
